Trong Năm Thánh kỷ niệm 400 năm các Giêsu hữu đầu tiên đến Việt Nam, nhiều tín hữu có dịp lãnh Ơn Toàn Xá nhưng vẫn băn khoăn về ý nghĩa của ân xá. Bài viết nhắc lại định nghĩa theo Giáo lý Hội Thánh, làm rõ sự phân biệt giữa tội đã được tha và hình phạt còn lại; vai trò của Giáo Hội trong việc áp dụng “kho tàng ân phúc”; và đòi hỏi nội tâm là hoán cải, cầu nguyện, bác ái, đền tội. Từ đó, tác giả đề nghị một lối lý giải gần gũi văn hoá Việt Nam qua kinh nghiệm “tặng quà” và cặp phạm trù Thảo–Lộc, để hiểu ân xá như ơn ban của Thiên Chúa chứ không phải thủ tục pháp lý hay phép “tính toán”. Kết luận mời gọi trở về Bí tích Hoà Giải và sống hiệp thông Hội Thánh. 

Abstract

During the Jubilee Year commemorating 400 years since the first Jesuits set foot in Vietnam, many Catholics have opportunities to receive the Plenary Indulgence yet remain uncertain about its meaning. This article revisits the Church’s catechetical definition, clarifying the distinction between forgiven sin and the remaining temporal consequences; the indispensable role of the Church in applying the “treasury of merits”; and the interior requirements of conversion expressed through prayer, charity, and penitential practice. Building on this foundation, the author proposes a culturally resonant explanation drawn from Vietnamese experience—especially the practice of gift-giving and the paired notions of Thảo and Lộc—to present indulgence as God’s gracious gift rather than a legalistic procedure or a matter of “calculation.” The conclusion invites believers to return to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to live more consciously the communion of the Church.
