Dựa chủ yếu trên Phần I của Ngôi Sao Cứu Độ (The Star of Redemption, sau đây gọi là Ngôi Sao), bài viết này được chia thành ba phần chính. Trước hết, phần thứ nhất trình bày lối tư duy mới và bối cảnh của nó. Rosenzweig phê phán cả Kant (con người như một thực thể luân lý) lẫn Hegel (khái niệm tính toàn thể và việc quy giản con người vào tinh thần). Ông biện minh cho nhu cầu về một lối tư duy mới như sau: triết học bắt đầu từ “nỗi sợ cái chết.” Cho đến nay, triết học đã xác lập con người dựa trên các khái niệm và bản chất vốn tất yếu mang tính trừu tượng. Vì vậy, ông kêu gọi một “tư duy mới” mang tính triệt để.
Tiếp theo, ba yếu tố bất khả quy (Thiên Chúa, thế giới và con người) cùng với phân tích hữu thể học về nhân vị là nội dung của phần thứ hai. Bài viết cũng đề cập đến phép tính vi phân vô cùng nhỏ của Cohen và cách ba yếu tố bất khả quy tự phát sinh từ những “hư vô” riêng của chính mình. Rosenzweig cho rằng “nhân vị” — giai đoạn đầu trong phân tích hữu thể học về con người — là một cái tôi không đích thực.
Thứ ba, nội dung chính của phần thứ ba là phân tích hữu thể học về cái tôi đích thực ở giai đoạn hai (đặc tính) và giai đoạn ba (bản ngã). Sự chuyển dịch từ nhân vị sang đặc tính có ý nghĩa quan trọng. Đặc tính là phi tương quan vì nó tự khép kín. Ngoài ra, tác giả đặc biệt nhấn mạnh đến bản ngã ở hình thức toàn vẹn của nó (“B=B”) như một siêu đạo đức học. Qua các phân tích này, Rosenzweig chứng minh rằng con người vừa hữu hạn vừa vô hạn. Hơn nữa, ông dùng khái niệm “linh hồn” như cái tôi xuất hiện ở bình diện liên-chủ-thể. “Linh hồn” vượt lên trên “nhân vị”, “đặc tính” và cả “siêu đạo đức học”. Do đó, con người vượt quá siêu đạo đức học và không thể được định nghĩa dứt khoát.
Kết luận, con người không chỉ là một yếu tố đứng bên cạnh, mà còn ở trong tương quan với Thiên Chúa như một chủ thể sống động (trong Phần II của Ngôi Sao).
Abstract
Based mainly on part I of the Star of Redemption (the Star), this paper is divided into three main parts. First of all, the first part will mention the new thinking and its circumstances. Rosenzweig criticizes both Kant (man as a moral entity) and Hegel (the notion of totality and reduction of man to spirit). Rosenzweig justifies the need for new thinking as follows: philosophy begins with “the fear of death.” Philosophy has until now endorsed man based on concepts and essences which are inevitably abstract. Thus, he calls for a radical “new thinking.” Next, three irreducible elements (God, world, and man) and the ontological analysis of personality is the content of the second part. Cohen’s infinitesimal calculus and how the three irreducible elements generate themselves out of their own particular nothings will be mentioned. Rosenzweig argues that personality, the first stage in the ontological analysis regarding man, is an inauthentic self. Thirdly, the main content of the third part is the ontological analysis of an authentic self in the second stage (character) and third stage (self). The shift from personality to character is significant. Character is non-relational because it is a self-enclosure. In addition, the writer focuses highly on the self in its entire form (“B=B”) as metaethics. Through these analyses, Rosenzweig proves that man is both finite and infinite. Furthermore, he uses the “soul” as the self that emerges at the intersubjective level. The “soul” is both beyond “personality”, “character” and even “metaethics”. And so, man is beyond metaethics and non-definitive. In conclusion, man is not only one element alongside but also in relation to God as a living subject (in part II of the Star).
