During the Enlightenment era of the 18th century, there was a strong interest in art. While Baumgarten was the first to use the term "aesthetics" and separate it from the realm of philosophy to become an independent field of study - the science of beauty; it was Kant's investigations that truly established the foundation and inspiration for aesthetics to emerge as a phenomenon within German Idealism. However, it was also precisely due to the replacement of "aesthetics" with "philosophy of art" that led to what Hegel referred to as the end of art or, more impressively, the death of art.
