The book of Leviticus contains the commandments that God provided to the children of Israel in order for them to live in accordance with the covenant and therefore accept His holiness. That holiness is also demonstrated through God's desire for his people to be holy. It is for this reason that God designates unique seasons for his people, namely the Jubilee Year (Lev 25:8-17). Throughout the Jubilee year, God's people are urged to live in the spirit of "one whole sabbath" in order to worship God and rediscover God's basic principles. These essential ideals must serve as the fulcrum, affecting all human connections while simultaneously flexing them toward harmony.
The first section of this paper will be devoted to a critique of the Lv 25.8-17 text and its structural dynamics. Then there is a textual examination of the Jubilee theme: (1) The Jubilee Year is a holy period dedicated to God; (2) The plenary year is a "full sabbath" of God worship; (3) The Jubilee Year is the time to restore God's desired justice. Finally, there is a study on and practical connection to the Catholic Church's Jubilee practice.
