Introduction

Abstract

Dear Readers,

This third issue of Magis is considered to be a significantly improved work compared to the previous two editions. It includes three articles in the field of philosophy, seven theological essays, and one on rhetorical analysis methods. Notably, the article on rhetorical analysis (§8) is a translation from a specialized work by the master in this field, Roland Meynet, S.J. The three philosophical essays (§9, 10, 11) are excerpts from the graduation theses of the Philosophy Program at the St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate (SJJS). The academic quality of these writings clearly exceeds the standard and objectives set for Magis Journal from its very first issue: “to select and publish individual research papers highly regarded by professors, with the potential to reach a serious academic level. […] While these may not yet be in-depth, comprehensive studies, they serve as foundational exercises in academic research, paving the way for future efforts to question and express the deeper truths of faith.”

Regarding the theological essays, they reflect the ability of the students to systematically grasp fundamental theological themes, which in turn inspire them to reflect and apply these ideas practically. A prime example is the essay “The Trinitarian Dimension and the Nature of Witness” (§6) in the field of Biblical Theology, starting from Paul’s teaching on receiving and living more fully the charisms within the Church, leading to a personal reflection on the call to live “Synodality.” Meanwhile, the essay “Renewing the Concept of Humanity” (§1) in the field of Anthropology and Morality presents a new morality based on a renewed anthropology, viewing humanity as a subject bearing a wounded nature, thus reflecting on the Church’s role as both a teacher and a compassionate, merciful mother. Last but not least are essays exploring how the light of the Word of God guides the lives of believers (§4, 5, 7), as well as the presence of the Church in the world and its mission to humanity (§2, 3). Each article concludes with personal reflections and thoughts on the effective pedagogical nature of the Word of God for the faith life of believers and the credibility of the Church in its teachings.

A new feature in Magis 3 is the publication of a specialized article by a respected lecturer in the field of Biblical Studies, on the “rhetorical analysis method.” This article is considered to hold significant methodological reference value, guiding the approach to biblical texts, especially those with a Hebrew (or Semitic) literary character. Publishing such an article opens up new possibilities for Magis Journal, gradually allowing it to become a space for the practical contributions of professors to the subjects they teach to the students at SJJS. Clearly, this contribution not only encourages the learning spirit of the students but also enhances the quality and usability of this modest Magis, which strives to grow “More” as its name Magis suggests.

With all that in mind, once again, the Magis Editorial Board warmly welcomes and appreciates the support and interest from professors and teachers. We hope that in future issues, Magis will continue to receive contributions from you. Now, on behalf of the Editorial Board, I am honored to present to you the third issue of the Magis.
