Solidarity in Pastoral Care of Patients

Jesus commanded us to love God and our neighbor (Mt 22:37–39; Mk 12:28–34; Lk 10:25–28). He asserts that no greater love exists than that of a man who gives his life for his friends (John 15:14). Saint Camillo personally experienced Jesus' compassion and mercy for him. Through his care for the ill, which he dubbed "the love of the Good Samaritan," the saint demonstrated God's love for him (Lk 10:29-37).
Patient care reveals two key tenets of Catholicism: first, that all people are equal and share the same human predicament; second, that each human being is absorbed into the same mystical body of Christ via the mystery of his incarnation. The essay will re-establish the foundations of solidarity in pastoral care for the sick on two levels: Christian humanism and Christology. Finally, there are fresh impulses for pastoral care of the ill, as well as for establishing pastoral care solidarity.
