Abstract

Thirty years ago, the document "The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church" (1993) by the Pontifical Biblical Commission provided an overview of the methods and approaches used in biblical exegesis, including "Semitic rhetoric." Through specific examples, the article introduces the foundation, methodology, and significance of rhetorical analysis, which is "deeply rooted in Semitic culture."

Prof. Roland Meynet, S.J., is a former Professor of the Faculty of Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome; he contributed to systematizing and popularizing the method of “rhetorical analysis” until today.
