From the perspective of the Catholic Church, the issue of euthanasia is not merely a personal decision or an act of mercy to alleviate suffering. Although there are arguments supporting euthanasia based on individual autonomy and compassion, the Catholic Church emphasizes the sanctity of life and compassion that does not end with ending it. The Church asserts that killing is never the right solution; instead, it advocates for respecting and caring for one another until the end, alleviating pain, and improving the quality of life for the sick. This approach reflects a profound compassion and respect for the value of life, showing concern for all populations, including those in the most difficult circumstances. According to the Church's teaching, life is sacred and given by God; thus, no one has the right to end another's life, regardless of the circumstances. Life is not only limited to this world but also extends to eternal life in God. The Church opposes euthanasia as it violates divine law and offends human dignity; individual autonomy cannot override the sacred value of life, and compassion cannot justify the act of killing. Suffering and death are seen as gateways to eternal life, enabling Christians to face them with peace and hope in eternal life through Jesus Christ.
