Abstract

The declaration "God is dead" is the way being recovers the authenticity of existence. The death of God reclaims humanity's supreme dignity, its position of mastery over the earth, and its role as master of its own destiny. Human beings now no longer cling to external values but rely on their own inner capacities, breaking free from the old self and advancing toward the more-than-human. In this way, human beings may hope to become the being that is properly their own.
