Cậy dựa chính yếu vào phân tích hữu thể luận ở phần I của tác phẩm Ngôi Sao Cứu Độ (the Star of Redemption), bài viết này được chia thành ba phần chính. Bối cảnh ra đời và sự cần thiết của « tư duy mới » (das neue Denken/the new thinking) nơi Rosenzweig phê phán Kant (vốn coi con người như một thực thể đạo đức) lẫn Hegel (khái niệm về toàn thể tính và việc giản trừ con người thành tinh thần) được đề cập trong phần đầu tiên. Cụ thể, Rosenzweig biện hộ rằng triết học cần một lối nẻo tư duy mới khởi phát từ « nỗi sợ cái chết » thay vì cố gắng đóng khung, cài đặt và giản lược con người dựa trên hệ thống khái niệm và bản chất trừu tượng như xưa nay. Phần thứ hai thử vén tìm lối hiểu về ba yếu tố bất khả giản lược (Thiên Chúa, thế giới, con người) cũng như phân tích hữu thể luận về nhân cách (personality). Trong đó, tác giả gắng thử phân tích phép vi phân của Cohen nhằm lý giải cách thức ba yếu tố ấy tự tạo lập chính mình từ những « hư vô » (Nichts) riêng biệt, đồng thời cũng chỉ ra lập luận tế nhị của Rosenzweig khi coi nhân cách (personality) mới chỉ là giai đoạn sơ khởi và vẫn chỉ là cái tôi chưa đích thực (inauthentic self). Nội dung chính của phần thứ ba tập trung vào phân tích hữu thể luận về cái tôi đích thực (authentic self) qua hai bước chuyển là tính cách (character) và cái tôi (self). Từ đây, sự chuyển dịch từ nhân cách (personality) sang tính cách (character) mang ý nghĩa then chốt bởi tính cách do đặc tính tự khép kín nên vẫn chưa thể mang mặc tính tương quan. Thêm vào đó, người viết tập trung phân tích cái tôi trong hình thái toàn vẹn (« B=B » ) xét như metaethics. Thông qua hệ thống phân tích ấy, Rosenzweig nỗ lực minh chứng rằng con người tự bản chất vừa hữu hạn lại vừa vô hạn ; đồng thời ông sử dụng khái niệm « linh hồn» như một cái tôi nảy sinh ở cấp độ liên chủ thể. Vì linh hồn vượt lên cả nhân cách (personality), tính cách (character) và thậm chí vượt lên cả metaethics, nên con người vượt thoát khỏi metaethics và không thể bị đóng khung bởi bất cứ hệ thống định nghĩa nào. Cuối cùng, bài viết ghi nhận con người không chỉ là một yếu tố tồn tại tách biệt mà còn nằm trong mối tương quan với Thiên Chúa như một chủ thể sống trải (lebendige Mensch), vốn được trình bày trong phần II của Ngôi Sao Cứu Độ.
